"We Don't Do That Here!"
Entertainment As an Effective Tool to Combat Bullying
“We Don’t Do That Here!” is a 30-minute musical production presented by high school performers for students in middle school, where bullying is at its worst.
Why This Approach Works
Entertainment and music affect different areas of the brain. The songs are memorable, and the key phrases and language are catchy. Through this unforgettable production, high school students become role models, and we create a culture of Interveners – students who are strong, confident, and empathetic.
Cast Talkback
Following the show, the high school students engage in a talkback with the middle school students – in and out of character – using positive peer influence to reinforce the main concepts in the musical.
Intentional Language
“We Don’t Do That Here!” uses intentional language. Our approach is effective because we:
- Empower “Targets” (not “victims”)
- Redirect “Culprits” (not “bullies”)
- Turn “Onlookers” into “Interveners”
A Comprehensive Program
In addition to the 30-minute musical, we offer middle schools Confidence Club curricula, classroom activities, and training and consultation for school counselors, teachers, and administrators.
